When Should I See a Doctor About Infertility Concerns?

If you have questions about fertility, your provider can discuss it with you and explore possible causes of infertility. There are many potential causes of infertility that can affect both you and your partner, from structural reasons to genetic conditions. Our health centers are a judgment-free environment, so you can feel comfortable asking any questions you have and getting the information you need about growing your family.

It is recommended you see a provider about infertility concerns if:

  • You have been trying to conceive for over a year.
  • You are 35 or older and have been trying to conceive for six months.
  • If you are older than 40.

What to Expect from a Fertility Assessment

A fertility assessment is a tool to help your provider determine the cause of your infertility.

Fertility assessments typically include reviewing your family and medical history, blood work, urine test, and a physical exam. A complete fertility assessment may take several menstrual cycles in order to evaluate your hormone levels and determine if you’re ovulating. It may also gather other important data at different points in your cycle.

After the fertility assessment is complete, your provider and your fertility specialist can help you review potential treatment options and help you create a plan to build your family.
