Nurse Midwife
About Kim Lopes, CNM, MSN
Originally from Montreal, Canada, Kim Lopes, CNM, MSN moved to Southbury, CT when she was in grade school.
Throughout her life, she explored different career ventures, but she always found herself drawn to work with people and help them. At first, she thought she wanted to be a physical therapist, then a psychologist. She was particularly drawn to women’s rights and educating women to be comfortable with their bodies. This led her journey toward midwifery.
“Each woman and family brings its own set of challenges and rewards. That’s what keeps midwifery interesting for me,” she said. “I’m inspired by my coworkers, my patients, my family, and all the folks that make up our community and work together every day.”
Lopes received her training at the midwifery school at Yale School of Nursing, where she was a National Health Service Corps scholar. She is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
“I want my patients to know that my priority is to help you and your family feel empowered and educated in your healthcare. I want to help you feel supported in your unique birth experience,” she said.
Outside of the office, she enjoys yoga and outdoor activities like biking and hiking. Other favorite pastimes include cooking, baking, and sewing.
“I am inspired by seeing the strength of women every day as they care for their families through their pregnancy and birth—seeing the strength of a family as they navigate difficult situations and work together as a team,” she said. “The best part of my job is getting to know the patients and their families and working with them to achieve their goals.”
