About Johnathon Recknagel, MD

Originally native to Michigan, I graduated from the University of Michigan and completed my medical degree at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine where I was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. I became an OBGYN when I saw in medical school that it was the perfect intersection of medicine, surgery, acute care, psychology, and social justice–all the things that had drawn me to medicine in the first place.

I completed my residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where I received awards for teaching and medical education, and was elected a chief resident in my final year. I joined Capital Area OBGYN in 2022 and am thrilled to continue providing excellent care for the women of North Carolina.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing complicated board games, painting, and cooking with my wife, Anjana.

My special clinical interests are in pelvic pain disorders, minimally invasive surgery, and reproductive justice.
