About Claire Harraghy, MD

Dr. Harraghy attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and did her residency at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.

Prior to medical school, she attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Va., and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

“The reason I have a B.A. is because my father felt that it was important to learn to think and reason about my area of interest,” Dr. Harraghy says, referring to her liberal arts education.

She is a board-certified OB/GYN and has worked in Hickory since 2003.

“I’m interested in the care of the whole woman, and for a while, I considered going into family practice, but I love delivering babies and doing surgery,” Dr. Harraghy says. “I feel that being an OB/GYN allows me to care for more aspects of women’s health, even if I don’t manage the more common medical problems. I think being a woman in my specialty is very important, as often our patients feel more comfortable discussing the intimate details of their lives with me because of it.”

Dr. Harraghy resides locally with her husband, Charles, and their two daughters. She has been a Girl Scout leader for the past three years, and loves reading, hiking and traveling.
