Dr. Tanneisha Barlow has been practicing medicine since 2005 and joined our practice in July 2007. She received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Michigan and earned her Medical Degree at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Barlow completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Barlow is committed to promoting preventive healthcare for women of all ages and ethnicities and strives to educate women about healthy behaviors that support healthy living. She currently serves as the vice chair of the OB Department at REX hospital. Additionally, Dr. Barlow is a part of several other UNC Rex committees including; Performance Improvement, Perinatal Quality, and Standing Orders.

Having grown up in a military family, she spent her childhood living abroad. Dr. Barlow is a fitness enthusiast who enjoys spending time with her two children and traveling to new places.

Follow-up Visit (Problem / Complication)

Dr. Barlow spent a good bit of time with me going over my recent issues and explaining more fully what my symptoms could be indicative of. She was professional and very sympathetic and positive about all that I'd been through. Though I did not have a hysteroscopy as anticipated (and directed by the hospital staff I'd seen prior to my visit), I was satisfied that Dr. Barlow's plan of proceeding was a good one for me.

Gynecological Problem Visit

I attempted to message the office nurse to ask my question regarding my perimenopausal symptoms prior to making an appointment, and was told I needed to make an appointment. I was literally asked One Question "are you having regular periods", and then told everything is normal and sent on my way. This one question could've happened on the phone or in a return message through the portal, but I completely wasted my time and it was not $250 worth of "care" that I now have to pay the office. I'm furious I have to pay for the literal two minutes spent in the office that could've just been a quick reply from the nurse when I reached out initially: "if you're having regular periods, we wont do any testing".

Breast Exam

I called the morning of the appointment and appreciated that I was able to get a same day appointment. Dr. Barlow was personable and efficient. I appreciated that even though she was treating the possible infection with antibiotics she took the treatment to the next step and requested a diagnostic mammogram. When dealing with the sensitivity of the issue I was thankful that Dr. Barlow was proactive in covering all possibilities.
