Dr. Mitchum grew up on James Island and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2009 with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Medical Ethics. She went on to obtain her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.

Dr. Mitchum has special interest in minimally invasive surgery. She is certified in Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery and received the Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery Award amongst her residency colleagues. She also has special interest in adolescent gynecology and loves obstetrics!

She and her husband, Phillip, love the outdoors. In her time away from the hospital, you can find her out on the water, camping, running or spending time with her family.

Menopause Symptom Support

Dr. Mitchum is attentive and helpful, offering advice with thoughtful consideration. I would rate her alone as a 5. The only reason I am not giving that as an overall rating is because of issues I've had in dealing with the nursing staff. I asked when booking if I needed bloodwork drawn since I had been on the medication for a few months. The receptionist sent a message to her nurse and then called me back to say that an order had been sent to Labcorp. I attempted to have the bloodwork done at the lab but they had no record of the order. I called the doctor's office again and the receptionist sent another note to the nurse, but I never heard back prior to my appointment. Then Dr. Mitchum said I didn't need the bloodwork. This would have been an unnecessary expense, so I'm relieved that I wasn't able to go through with it, but it did cost me time with multiple calls and a trip across town. Post-visit with Dr. Mitchum, my prescription was sent to CVS but as it's a compound, it needed to go to Dotty's. It just seems that this area of the practice needs a little quality control.
