Melinda P. Everett is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and joined Chapel Hill OB/GYN in 2000. She loves education and studied at UNC Chapel Hill. Her first degree was in biology. Melinda then joined the Peace Corps and worked in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where she specialized in maternal and child health. She set up vaccine clinics and supervised rural health centers. Upon her return, Melinda attended the School of Nursing at UNC as a Johnston’s Scholar, a full-merit scholarship. After graduation, she worked in gynecologic oncology at UNC Hospitals. During this time, she pursued and completed her Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program at UNC where she also received full funding from the Johnston’s Scholarship.

Melinda has worked at Chapel Hill OB/GYN since 2000. Her past experience with gynecologic oncology patients prepared her for her current practice. Due to her years with cancer patients, she has a special understanding of the importance of symptom management and getting to know her patients as people. Melinda is a member of several groups including the North American Menopause Society, the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, and the International Society for Vulvovaginal Diseases. She has a special interest in female sexual dysfunction and vulvar dermatology. She also specializes in helping people sort out the hormonal influences on migraines.

In 2003, she married her husband, Ben, a computer programmer from Chapel Hill, NC. He was so eager to marry her that he proposed to her over an international call while she was in the Peace Corps. They have two daughters, and Melinda spends her spare time involved in gardening, reading, and playing board games. She calls her favorite activity “a long, strategic, three-to-five-hour geeky board game with large groups of friends.”
