I am a certified women’s health nurse practitioner. I have undergraduate degrees from Auburn University and Belmont University, and completed my graduate nursing coursework at Vanderbilt University in 2008. I joined Capital Area OB/GYN in January 2013 and I provide in-office obstetrical care and gynecology services.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, I moved to Raleigh in 2009. My husband, Michael, and I have three daughters. I enjoy being a mom and traveling.

Maggie Darst was extremely rushed in seeing me, and I get the impression that the only thing that she cares to discuss with her patients is hormonal birth control. This is also based on prior experiences. I went in trying to discuss hormones and how they can affect how widely my cycle ranges and how it affects my weight, which both symptoms point to PCOS. She was not interested in discussing hormones or PCOS at length, but I was told hormonal birth control was the only treatment (dismissing how food or supplements could also support healthy hormonal functions), and that I should consider an endocrinologist. The visit was very rushed, which I understand the office is understaffed right now, but I will not be seeing her again. The woman working for LabCorp who took my blood was exceptional though. I would rate her a 5/5.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

I greatly enjoyed Dr. Durst - However I this was my third doctors appointment for this UTI and I was told that on my previous appointment the urine culture was not ran. This was important because it was the entire purpose of that visit as I had already undergone a round of antibiotics without resolution of the urgency to urinate. While this is not on Dr. Durst it was a total failure of my previous appointment causing me additional costs and discomfort. To be told "this happens sometimes" is not in any way sufficient for the situation.

Gynecological Ultrasound / Sonogram

It was very apparent that the provider was uncomfortable delivering some questionable results on my 20 weeks ultrasound. Given I had never met her before I did not know what to expect and she came into the room like a hurricane, barely made eye contact, was talking 100 miles a minute, all while delivery news that something showed up on my ultrasound that could indicate some very scary outcomes for our unborn child. I think working on delivering uncomfortable news to a patient while having an appropriate bedside manner of compassion and understanding is very important. It can go a long way to ensure the patients are able to grasp all the information and make an informed decision about next steps. What I was told caught be so off guard and was presented in a manor that was rushed an without compassion that I broke down in the office and had a hard time even gathering my thoughts and able to make a rational decision of ask any additional questions. Our second encounter with Maggie was much more calm and in that moment is when I realized she was uncomfortable delivering the new to me on the previous visit and there is some opportunity for training and improvement.
