Dr. Laura Carlton completed her undergraduate education at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. She majored in Chemistry and French and spent semesters abroad studying religion in Southeast Asia and neocolonialism in Senegal. After working on the Haiti cholera outbreak with the CDC’s Enteric Diseases Laboratory Branch, she continued her education at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, where she was awarded the Beatrice Tucker award for women’s health advocacy. She then returned to Atlanta for residency at Emory University.

Pre-Operative Evaluation

Dr. Carlton treats me with respect (the whole office does), and made sure I was kept updated with everything I needed to know for my upcoming procedure. As a trans man, it would be all too easy to feel threatened or treated disrespectfully in other medical offices, but I have never felt that way at all about this office or the people who work there. They always answer my questions with kindness and understanding, and soothe my nerves about what's happening with my body. It feels collaborative and safe, and I enjoy learning from these fantastic staff members.

Childbirth / Labor & Delivery

I was taken care of on time and staff was friendly. The previous visit I had was an anatomy scan and that appointment felt extremely rushed. It wasn’t even 30 min and the tech said we will have to finish next time. She was even interrupted by someone during my scan and return clearly aggravated that they were giving her more patients. I just didn’t feel like it was fair to me and my baby. I had to return and pay yet again for the scan that could have been completed if only she wasn’t rushed so much.
