Cher A. Durham

Cher Durham is a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner who obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University in 2020. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of North Carolina Charlotte and her Associate Degree Nursing from Wake Tech Community College. She has worked as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at Duke University Hospital, and in Labor and Delivery at UNC affiliates. She is a board-certified trauma nurse (TCRN) and sexual assault nurse examiner for adults & adolescents (SANE-A). Her experience includes time spent as the Director of Sexual Assault Services for Wake County and Director of the Solace Center. She is deeply passionate about providing culturally-appropriate, consent-based, patient-centered, trauma-informed care to all individuals with an additional focus on improving outcomes in marginalized, under-resourced, at-risk and vulnerable patient populations.

She is married to Chris McGrath who is a Flight Nurse/Researcher for UNC and member of the UNC IRB. They have two teenagers at home in New Bern whom they spend time with, hiking, boating, gardening and exploring nature together as a family. Cher has strong ties to her Native American roots and spends her personal time in meditation, assisting animal rescues, collecting & identifying rocks, crystals, gems, plants and flowers, waterfall hikes, nature retreats and wilderness challenges.
