Dr. Taam-Akelman is a native of Ithaca, New York. She attended Cornell University for her undergraduate degree and the Medical University of South Carolina for her medical degree and OB/GYN residency. Prior to joining Lyndhurst she worked as an OBGYN in Greensboro, NC. Dr. Taam-Akelman enjoys providing comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care for patients of all ages to help them meet their healthcare goals. Her particular interests include: preventative health, contraceptive counseling, preconception planning, obstetric care, vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC), and minimally invasive surgery. She is trained in hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, robotic, and vaginal surgery. In her free time, she enjoys running, yoga, cooking, and spending time with her husband and dog.

The doctor was extremely cold and unhelpful. She did not read anything about me or my chart before she came in, she behaved as if she knew nothing about me. I was tempted to leave after the initial consultation before the Pap smear. I wanted to discuss age and conceiving and she decided to tell me all about infertility and my options for IUI and IVF. There was no getting to know me or anything about my current situation. She tried to make small talk during my breast exam. I told her I did not want to talk.

Very long and thorough visit with Dr. Taam. My chart is complex and I needed her feedback on a specific complication. She spent over an hour walking me through my options so that I left with a clear care plan accounting for downstream potential complications as well. Great practice.

OB Care

I do not really feel like she hears me and my birth plan. The first visit I told her I did NOT want to be induced, I was met with a scare tactic and how chances of me going into labor before my expected due date were highly unlikely and if I go past my chances of uterine rupture was likely by 2%, also was given a pap smear and wasn't even told that I would be getting one. Second visit I brought facts to bring up about how I still will not be induced and brought up the fact that if I was induced my chances of uterine rupture INCREASE, she then told me there is no set percentage for a uterine rupture. My third visit I brought my birth plan and although she may mean well I don't think she understands how much I want to avoid medical intervention. She recommend I see another doctor which I do agree with her because I don't feel like we see eye to eye about how I want to give birth to my third child.
